How can we shape an ethical digital future? 🤔🌐
This question was at the heart of our online workshop on the Future of Digital Ethics, marking the first step in a comprehensive Foresight process. Over the course of three sessions, 27 participants from diverse professional backgrounds came together to lay a solid foundation: a systematic trend analysis.
Why did we start with a trend analysis?
To actively shape the digital future, it’s essential to recognize which developments will have a lasting impact. Only by identifying the right signals can we anticipate opportunities and ethical challenges.
📌 Diverse perspectives on digital responsibility and ethics
Among 27 experts, digital ethics was viewed from multiple angles, reflecting the complexity of the topic. Rather than a single, universal definition, discussions highlighted a wide range of perspectives, open questions, and emerging challenges in this field.
📌 Key drivers shaping the future
Throughout the three workshops, we identified several key drivers, including the growing influence of digital monopolies, the increasing importance of digital identities, and the emergence of transformative technologies such as AI, brain-computer interfaces (BCI), and quantum computing.
📌 Uncertainty and the need for proactive engagement
One of the biggest takeaways was that the future remains highly uncertain. While we have identified key trends, their long-term impacts are still unclear, and many questions remain unanswered. This makes it even more important to actively engage with and responsibly shape these developments rather than simply react to them.
