Insights from Autumn 2024: Advancements in Corporate Digital Responsibility

In the fall of 2024, we were honored to attend two pivotal events in the realm of Corporate Digital Responsibility (CDR). Our objectives were to gain the latest insights, expand our professional network, and engage with esteemed experts. The CDR Lab Conference in Munich and the CDR Conference organized by the CDR-Initiative in Berlin provided ideal platforms to achieve these goals.

1. CDR Lab Conference on October 31, 2024, in Munich

On October 31, 2024, approximately 30 CDR professionals gathered at the House of Communication of the Serviceplan Group in Munich for the CDR Lab Conference. The event, themed “Responsible AI – Pathways to Practice,” provided a forum for discussing the practical applications of responsible AI. The event enabled productive dialogue on how to elevate the profile of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) across a range of sectors.

The conference began with an overview of current CDR initiatives, followed by presentations on future developments in marketing within the era of generative AI. An ethics-focused session explored the distinction between “desired” and “desirable”.

Notably, practical sessions explored methodologies for operationalizing Responsible AI within corporate structures. Presentations included an Ethos Advisor and a prototype for value-based design, aligned with ISO/IEEE 7000 standards.

2. CDR Conference by the CDR-Initiative on November 14, 2024, in Berlin

The fifth CDR Conference, focusing on the theme of “Fairness in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” was held at the Data Space in Berlin. Notable figures from the realms of politics, business, and civil society gathered to deliberate the crucial necessity of fairness in the digital age.

The event commenced with an opening address, followed by a keynote presentation on “Fairness along the AI value chain: what will change with the AI Act?”.

A subsequent panel discussion addressed the challenges and solutions pertaining to fairness in digitalization, with contributions from experts in tech strategy and digital society.

Four workshops provided practical insights into a range of topics, including the role of AI guidelines, the responsible utilization of GPT models, strategies to combat disinformation and hate speech, and the implementation of diversity impact assessments.
Both events underscored the growing importance of fairness and responsibility in the deployment of artificial intelligence and digital technologies. They also offered valuable perspectives for the practical implementation of corporate digital responsibility within enterprises.
